Millennials are known for being multi-talented and unable to directly choose one career path. Job security isn’t guaranteed and everyone could always use a little extra income. Side hustles are the latest wave among our generation, whether it’s selling old clothes on the infamous Poshmark or babysitting your overly energetic nephew. Someones gotta bring home the bacon. lol. I can’t believe I just said that either.
“A side hustle is a way to make some extra cash that allows you flexibility to pursue what you’re most interested in. It can also be your true passion– a chance to delve into fashion, travel, or whatever it is you care about the most without quitting your day job.”
Side hustles aren’t just for 20-somethings who work 9-5 jobs, though. Having a side hustle while you’re still in college has dozens of advantages, especially when you get into your career.
Set Yourself Apart From The Rest
Taking the initiative to start something new and outside of your comfort zone will show any hiring manager that you have what it takes. Be passionate about what you’re doing. These traits are what employers look for. Fill your resume with “buzz words” that hold power and give yourself a background in something that will grow both you as a person, and the skills to perform any career path that you choose. What better way to prove it than having a well-developed side hustle?
So Melissa, what’s your side hustle?
For as long as I can remember I have been a writer. Before I even knew how to articulate my speech into words, I would scribble my thoughts onto paper. A few years ago I decided to start a blog. It’s been an uphill battle, but one of the best decisions I ever made. I hope to one day bring in a side income from my blog. As of now, I am utilizing my blog as a place to share my passion for writing in the form of beauty and lifestyle related posts. My income is solely from companies who reach out and want to work with me. Occasionally I do sponsored posts for a small amount of income, but this is mostly just a hobby. My long-term goal is to create a second job out of blogging one day. With your support, I can do that.
Life is about taking chances
Find your side hustle. Now is the time to do something out the ordinary. You will never be as young as you are right now at this very moment. If you’re reading this and questioning yourself, DON’T. Take the chance, do what you love, in the end it will all be worth it.
Thank you so much for reading my posts.
